Carl Hodge

Tennis Manager /Head Pro

CARL HODGE, USPTR/USPTA, is the Tennis Manager/Head Pro for the City of Macon’s Tennis Programs. He oversees the activities at the City of Macon’s John Drew Smith Tennis Center and Tattnall Square Tennis Center. He received the Community Service Award for Georgia District and Southern Section. He is a member of the Multi-Cultural Committee and has chaired the School’s Program for Georgia. Carl was Employee of the Year for the City of Macon, 2000. As a tennis player, Carl was ranked #1 in doubles in both Georgia and the Southern Section of the United States Tennis Association, and top 5 nationally in the Men's 30 Doubles. He has over ten state doubles titles. Carl attended Morehouse College and St. Leo College and holds a B.A. in Accounting.

Robin Bateman

Facilities  - Tattnall / John Drew Smith Tennis Centers

Robin Bateman is the facilities coordinator of two sites --John Drew Smith & Tattnall Tennis Centers –36 courts in Macon, Ga., where she coordinates tennis programs and leagues, is a tournament director, serves as a team captain, and assists junior teams competing at district, regional, and section events.

Bateman is a contributing editor for Racquet Sports Industry Magazine, the communications director for TennisConnect, and an author and moderator for http://www.Writing.Com/ which is a site for Writers.

Sarah Witherspoon

Adult & Junior Program Coordinator

Tennis Instructor

Sarah started playing tennis in the summer of 2002. Her daughter Jasi had taken a Ralleyball Program in March, and because she wanted to continue to play, Sarah decided it was a great way to bond with her. Tennis has become her passion, and her contributions to Middle Georgia Tennis include:  Adult & Junior Program Coordinator, Tennis Instructor,  Summer Camp Coordinator, and Tournament Director.
 
Between the fall of 2006 and spring of 2008, Sarah joined the faculty at Wesleyan College as a tennis instructor for beginners and intermediate players. She also co-coached the Wesleyan Tennis Team.  She plays at the 4.0 level for USTA, and has also played ALTA.   In November 2007, Sarah became a PTR certified associate instructor, and teaches at John Drew Smith and Tattnall Tennis Centers.  Her main core of students are juniors participating in the QuickStart format.  In 2010, she plans to host four USTA QuickStart tournaments, four Level 4 tournaments and one Level 5.

Paul Tobin

Head Pro

 Paul Tobin has been coaching tennis for over 23 years to both juniors and adults around the East Coast and Florida. He has been a USPTA, PTR and GPTA Professional for over 20 years. Paul is known for his high intense drilling clinics conducted at top academies including Bollettieri’s Academy, Evert Tennis Center, and Harold Solomon Tennis Institute. Paul was an East Coast  / National Junior Player as well singles player for The University Of Maryland. Paul also competed on the Challenger and Futures Tour from 1987 to 1988. Paul is a student of the Bollettieri Teaching System and President of SlingHopper Drill Bags, distributed by Gamma Sports.

Juan Farrow

Teaching Pro

Juan Farrow is the first man to win three NCAA Division II National Championships.  He has wins over several top-10 professional player including John McEnroe.  Farrow is an established tennis professional and has worked with many top-ranked juniors including Timothy Neilly (Boys 14 former number one in the world) and an Orange Bowl Champion.

 

 

Ken Nelson

Teaching Pro

Ken Nelson only teaches children from ages four through eighteen, who have a keen enthusiasm for the game.  His style of coaching involves an all-court game, enhancing his students abilities to be able to play a productive net game.  He has been a PTR certified tennis professional since 2001
 

Gary Gober

Gary Gober has been an active member of the Macon Tennis Community for many years.  Gober has been a PTR (Professional Tennis Registry) certified tennis instructor for the past five years. 

 

Charlie Aguilar

Teaching Pro 

Charlie Aguilar is certified through the USPTA(United States Professional Tennis Association) and has over 30 years of playing and teaching experience. Charlie is still active in competing in Southern and National Tournaments and keeps up with current coaching trends as the game continues to evolve. His experience includes representing the U.S. army on the All Army tennis team where he played both singles and doubles. Aguilar conducts the USTA Quickstart format for students 8-10 years of age, beginning juniors ages 10-18, junior tournament players, adult beginner USTA 123 format and adult advanced levels. Attention to all levels of both mental and physical aspects of tennis is important to Coach Aguilar in private or group lessons. Aguilar is an expert racquet stringer for the John Drew Smith Tennis center, including tournaments
